The SIGamp for Rhapsody plugin was pulled off the SIGamp site right after discovering it no longer worked with the updated online Rhapsody player. I have it working again, it will probably be back in the SIGamp downloads soon. I noticed something of interest if you're looking for a quick hack to get the track and artist info. Take a look in the window title! If you want the artist and track then there you go.

RhapSIGody - a Rapid SIG creator

My latest efforts have been centered around the Rhapsody.com web services. I've been thinking about a way to incorporate the recently played RSS feeds into a quick and easy way to create something similiar to a "Now Playing SIG". Since the feed is not the real time thing used for SIGamp I decided to make something that isn't quite as dynamic or resource intensive (expensive). I like the concept of making the little SIG's like the ones on the left with the album art and the song info next to them. What I didn't like was the time and effort it took to do it.

Well, here it is. I'm calling it RhapSIGody. I still have some things I want to add, but the basic's are in place and functional. I have tested it here on Blogger, Myspace and a website. Let me know if you like it, or not.

My Rhapsody Web Services contest entry

Rhapsody Web Services has a contest for developers to construct new and exciting things using the Rhapsody music web services technologies. My entry adds a "Search Rhapsody.com" item to your Internet Explorer context-menu. When you see an artist or album name just highlight it, right-click and click "Search Rhapsody.com" from the context-menu. A window will open with the music links ready to be played using Rhapsody. If you do not have an account with Rhapsody you can still try it using the free 25 songs a month deal.

Download Search Rhapsody.com in IE Context Menu.

After installing you will only need to restart Internet Explorer to begin using it.

The code is based on the Rhapsody Web Services SDK available on the
Web Services site.

"Search Rhapsody.com in IE Context-menu" uses the Rhapsody.com Search API like this:

"http://realsearch.real.com/-search?query"="+highlighted Text +"&searchtype=RhapKeyword&size=10&availability=Stream"

Then uses the XML response to open a new window with the results:

"http://www.rhapsody.com/artist?artistId="+artistid
or
"http://www.rhapsody.com/album?albumId="+albumid

The installer adds this registry entry:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt\Search Rhapsody.com]
@="file://c:\\program files\\Rhapsody_context\\Rhapsody_context.js"

and a file called C:\program files\Rhapsody_context\Rhapsody_context.js contains the source code. Post back if you like it, or not.
